The COVID-19 Sound Diary

Last Saturday was declared here in Spain a 15-day national lockdown to battle coronavirus. Since the start of this quarantine the sound of the city have dramatically changed and become more “quieter”. There is a different soundscape and I´ve noticed deeply, even since I live in a place that is significantly quieter than Barcelona city center.
I decided to record as a sound diary of this experience with daily recordings from my studio in the Serra de Collserola natural park.
I would like to share this audios, so I will upload them daily on my bandcamp.

What do you hear in my neighbourhood on a daily basis?

The area where I´m recording (my house/studio) is very particular in therms of sound. The location is not totally outside the city but at a mountain spot where the view allows me to see both the natural park and the city from a far, this place ins significatively quieter that the city center and the songs of birds are present during the day (parrots, magpies, swallows) is a windy area so you can hear the trees and shrubbery shake. Most of the neighbors have a Dog (big ones mainly) and you can hear them barking once a scooter pass by (provably the postman cause the barrio don´t have traffic at all), also most of the houses have a little garden and some people have chickens and a rooster that sings every morning, down the hill in the first house of the neighborhood there is a Gipsy family and the father proudly sings some flamenco songs that you can listen if you are in the terrace. This and much more is what you listen everyday in my neighbourhood On the other hand and since we can see and hear a bit of the city from a far, the sound of the highway makes a special humming drone constantly during the day, there is a velodrome near by where some days there is cyclist practicing and some areas were people plays sports (futbol mainly) and a boarding school that you can see lost inside the forrest...
